The 5 ingredients you need for Nut Bars

  • Roasted, unsalted almonds: feel free to use unroasted almonds if you’d like a much less-roasted taste in your baked nut bars.
  • Roasted, unsalted peanuts: I love using unsalted peanuts so I can control the exact amount of salt I’d like in my nut bars.
  • Salt: if you don’t like any salt or are trying to keep your sodium intake down, feel free to skip this ingredient. Alternatively, you can add in a touch more if you’re in the mood for a saltier snack. 😉 Remember you can always add more after baking (sprinkle atop each bar).
  • Vegan gluten free brown rice crisp cereal: my favorite ingredient in this homemade kind bars recipe. It adds a subtle crunch and texture variation that’s so satisfying. [click here to buy it]
  • Pure maple syrup: the sweet “glue” that holds these nuts bars together. Okay, no one ever said glue sounded tasty, but you know what I mean. 😉

  1. Can honey or golden syrup be used instead of maple syrup?
    Thanks

    1. Hi Fiona! I haven’t tried golden syrup, but I know many readers have used honey with good results. Hope you enjoy!

  2. I can’t find a way to easily search through previous comments, so I am sorry if this has already been addressed. Is there a drawback to using regular rice crisp cereal vs brown rice cereal? (I am having a very difficult time finding a cost-effective brown rice crisp cereal.)

    Reply

    1. Hi Katie! Using regular rice crisp cereal will be fine. Hope you enjoy! 🙂

  3. Finally a recipe that delivers the crunch factor. I have made many recipes and that failed miserably in the:
    crunch
    holds together
    and taste departments

My only down point is that there is still some hold together issues. I will next time roughly cut the nuts and see wether that helps

    Reply

    1. So glad you enjoyed the crunchiness, Deeanna! I’ve found that really tightly packing the bars into the pan before baking helps a lot when it comes time to cut them. Hope this helps!

  4. We love these in my house and I’ve made loads of different versions for my little boy! They’ve been coming out a bit sticky though – am I not cooking them for long enough? I’m following the quantities suggested so can’t work out what would be causing it otherwise. Any thoughts welcomed! Thanks.

    1. Hi Fatimah, I’m so happy to hear you and your kiddo are enjoying my recipe! 🙂 For the stickiness: try adding a few minutes of bake time, and allow the bars to cool completely before slicing. Otherwise, have you made any substitutions or adjustments to the recipe?

  5. Can you substitute maple/carob syrup for the pure maple? I’d just try it but I can’t afford to waste the ingredients if it doesn’t work! Pure maple is too expensive for me (am in the UK). Thanks.

    1. Hi Charlotte! I’ve had other readers use honey, agave and brown rice syrup here with good results, so I’d say start there. Hope this helps! 🙂

  6. Nut bars are my favorite but I have never made them at home! Sounds so easy!

I've been buying these bars since 2017 and they were fabulous until KIND decided they needed to follow the shrinkflation trend and reduce the size of the bars while increasing the price. Kind bars, the popular on-the-go snacks, sure do look healthy. They contain nuts and fruit (and sometimes chocolate), they're a source of protein and antioxidants, they're low in sodium and have zero trans fats.

We don't use high fructose corn syrup and you'll never find artificial sweeteners or added sugar alcohols in our snacks, since they go against our philosophy of using premium, better-for-you ingredients that are KIND® to your body.
